What is vehicle preservation?
Vehicle preservation is the process of protecting and maintaining your vehicle’s condition, appearance and finish over time. Through services such as ceramic coatings, paint protection film and scheduled maintenance, we help reduce wear, preserve the paintwork and keep your vehicle looking its best.
What services do you offer?
We specialise in ceramic coatings, paint protection film (PPF), paint correction and ongoing vehicle maintenance. We also offer tailored protection options and preservation plans designed around your vehicle, how you use it and your long-term goals.
What is the difference between a car detail and vehicle preservation?
A standard detail focuses primarily on cleaning and improving appearance. Vehicle preservation takes a longer-term approach, combining appropriate paint preparation, protective treatments, specialist installation and ongoing maintenance to help retain the vehicle’s condition.
Which service is best for my vehicle?
It depends on the vehicle’s current condition, how frequently you drive it, where it is stored and what you want to protect against. Ceramic coatings are ideal for easier cleaning and surface protection, while PPF offers physical protection against stone chips and road debris. We can recommend a tailored combination following an initial discussion and assessment.
Do you work on luxury, performance and classic cars?
Yes. Our services are suitable for a wide range of vehicles, from everyday cars to luxury, performance and enthusiast vehicles. The preparation and protection approach is tailored to the individual vehicle and the condition of its surfaces.
Do you offer bespoke packages?
Yes. Every vehicle has different requirements, so we can tailor protection and maintenance recommendations to your vehicle, intended use and preservation goals.
Where are you based, and do you cover Cardiff and South Wales?
We are based in the Penarth and Cardiff area and serve customers across the surrounding region. Please enquire with your location and vehicle details to confirm availability and the most suitable arrangements for your booking.
How do I get a quote?
Contact us with your vehicle’s make, model, year, current condition and the service you are interested in. Photos can help us provide an initial estimate, although some vehicles may require an in-person assessment before a final quote can be confirmed.
What is a ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating is a liquid protective treatment applied to a vehicle’s exterior surfaces. Once cured, it forms a durable layer that improves water repellency, helps resist certain forms of contamination and makes routine cleaning easier.
What are the benefits of a ceramic coating?
Ceramic coatings help repel water and dirt, improve gloss, make washing easier and provide additional resistance to environmental contamination. They can help maintain a vehicle’s finish, but they do not make paint scratch-proof or eliminate the need for maintenance.
How long does a ceramic coating last?
Our packages are designed around three different protection periods: 3, 5 and 10 years. Actual performance depends on the specific coating, preparation, mileage, storage conditions and aftercare. Product warranties and maintenance requirements vary by package.
What is the difference between your 3-, 5- and 10-year ceramic coatings?
Each package offers a different level of long-term protection based on the coating system selected. The 3-year option is suited to customers seeking durable everyday protection, the 5-year option offers a longer protection period, and the 10-year option is intended for customers prioritising long-term preservation. The exact product and warranty terms are confirmed with your chosen package.
Does ceramic coating prevent scratches?
No. Ceramic coatings can help reduce the likelihood of certain light surface marks, but they cannot prevent stone chips, deeper scratches, dents or all wash-induced swirl marks. For physical impact protection, paint protection film is the more appropriate solution.
Does ceramic coating protect against stone chips?
No. Ceramic coatings are too thin to provide meaningful protection against stone impacts. PPF is designed to absorb impacts from stones and road debris, helping protect the original paint underneath.
Will a ceramic coating make my car permanently scratch-proof?
No. No conventional ceramic coating makes paint scratch-proof. Careful washing and appropriate maintenance are still essential to minimise swirl marks and preserve the finish.
Does ceramic coating make my car permanently shiny?
It can enhance and maintain the appearance of well-prepared paint, but the result depends heavily on the condition of the paint beforehand. Our one-stage paint correction helps improve gloss and reduce light imperfections before the coating is applied.
Do you polish the car before applying the coating?
Yes. All three of our ceramic coating packages include a one-stage paint correction. This helps refine the paintwork and improve its appearance before application. Deeper scratches and heavier defects may require additional correction, which can be discussed following an assessment.
What is a one-stage paint correction?
It is a machine-polishing process designed to improve gloss and reduce suitable light scratches, swirl marks and other surface imperfections. It is a balance between improving the finish and preserving the vehicle’s original paint thickness.
Will a ceramic coating remove existing scratches?
No. The coating protects the prepared surface rather than correcting defects itself. Suitable imperfections may be reduced during paint correction, but deep scratches, stone chips and damage through the clear coat may remain visible.
What does your ceramic coating package include?
Our standard packages include a thorough decontamination wash, detailed wheel cleaning, one-stage paint correction, ceramic coating application and a light interior refresh. The coating coverage and specific product depend on the selected package.
Which parts of my vehicle receive the ceramic coating?
Our standard ceramic packages cover the painted exterior surfaces and wheel faces, alongside the specified exterior surfaces included in the package. Glass, interior surfaces, wheel barrels and other specialist areas can be discussed as additional protection options.
Can ceramic coating be applied to wheels and glass?
Yes, provided the appropriate product is used for each surface. Wheel coatings and glass coatings have different formulations and purposes, so we select the appropriate protection for each application.
Can I ceramic coat a brand-new car?
Absolutely. New vehicles can benefit from protection from the outset. However, new paintwork is not always perfect, so we assess the finish and carry out the necessary preparation before applying the coating.
Can you ceramic coat an older car?
Yes. Older vehicles can be excellent candidates, provided their paintwork is suitable for the process. We assess the existing condition and discuss realistic results before recommending a package.
How long does ceramic coating take to apply?
It depends on the vehicle’s size, paint condition and selected coating. Because preparation and correction are important parts of the process, most bookings require the vehicle for at least a full working day, and some require longer.
How much does ceramic coating cost?
Pricing depends on the vehicle, paint condition, package selected and any additional services required. Our three packages provide different protection options, and we confirm the appropriate price before work begins.
Is ceramic coating worth the investment?
It can be worthwhile if you value easier maintenance, improved gloss and long-term surface protection. The value is greatest when the vehicle is properly prepared and maintained afterwards. The best option depends on your ownership plans, driving habits and expectations.
Do I still need to wash my car after ceramic coating?
Yes. Ceramic coatings reduce the effort required to clean a vehicle, but they do not keep it permanently clean. Regular washing is essential to remove road grime, traffic film, bird droppings and other contamination.
Can ceramic coating be applied over existing paint protection film?
Yes, provided the coating is compatible with the particular film. A suitable coating can improve water repellency and make PPF easier to maintain. We assess the film and use a product appropriate for its surface.
Does ceramic coating come with a warranty?
Warranty coverage depends on the product and package supplied. We explain the applicable terms, duration, exclusions and any required maintenance before your booking is confirmed. A stated coating lifespan should not automatically be assumed to be a transferable or unconditional warranty.
What is paint protection film (PPF)?
PPF is a transparent or coloured protective film applied to a vehicle’s painted surfaces. It acts as a sacrificial barrier against stone chips, road debris, light abrasions and other everyday hazards that could otherwise damage the paintwork.
What is the difference between PPF and ceramic coating?
PPF provides physical protection against stone impacts and certain scratches. Ceramic coating primarily provides surface protection, water repellency and easier cleaning. PPF is best for impact-prone areas, while ceramic coating is ideal for maintaining appearance and simplifying aftercare. They can also be used together.
Does PPF actually prevent stone chips?
PPF significantly reduces the risk of stone chips reaching the paintwork, particularly in protected areas. However, severe impacts can still damage the film or the surface underneath, so complete protection cannot be guaranteed.
Is PPF completely invisible?
High-quality clear film can be difficult to notice when professionally installed. Visibility depends on the film, paint colour, panel shape, lighting and installation technique. Some edges and seams may remain visible, although careful alignment and wrapping can minimise their appearance.
Will PPF damage my original paintwork?
When appropriate film is installed and removed correctly, PPF is designed to protect the original finish. However, removal can carry a risk where paint has been poorly repaired, is already failing or has an unsuitable finish. We assess the paintwork before installation and discuss any concerns.
How long does PPF last?
Lifespan depends on the film manufacturer, product, exposure, driving conditions and maintenance. We explain the warranty associated with the particular film selected and recommend regular inspections to help identify any developing issues.
Does PPF turn yellow over time?
Quality modern films are designed to resist yellowing and UV-related deterioration. However, no film is immune to ageing, staining or environmental damage indefinitely. Film quality, exposure and aftercare all influence its appearance over time.
Is PPF self-healing?
Many premium films have self-healing topcoats that can reduce the appearance of certain light surface scratches when exposed to suitable heat. This does not repair deep cuts, punctures or damage that penetrates through the film.
Can PPF be applied to any car?
PPF can be applied to many vehicles, including everyday cars, performance cars and luxury vehicles. Suitability depends on the shape and condition of the panels, the paint finish and the film being used. We assess each vehicle before confirming the installation.
What areas of the car can you protect with PPF?
Depending on the package, we can protect the front bumper, bonnet, front wings, mirrors, headlights, A-pillars, roof sections, side skirts, rear arches, spoilers or the entire painted exterior. Bespoke coverage can be discussed for individual vehicles.
What is the difference between front-end, track-pack and full-body PPF?
Front-end protection concentrates on high-impact areas such as the front bumper, bonnet, front wings and mirrors. A track pack adds selected vulnerable areas such as side skirts, rear arches and spoilers. Full-body PPF covers the vehicle’s painted exterior, subject to the agreed coverage and exclusions.
Is full-body PPF worth it?
It can be particularly worthwhile for high-value, performance, collectible or frequently driven vehicles where preserving the original paint is a priority. Front-end or bespoke coverage may offer better value if you mainly want to protect the areas most exposed to road debris.
Can PPF be installed on a brand-new car?
Yes. Applying PPF early helps protect the original finish before it accumulates stone chips and other damage. We inspect the paint first and address any preparation requirements before installation.
Can you apply PPF to a car that already has stone chips or scratches?
Yes, in some circumstances, but PPF will not hide existing damage reliably. Chips, scratches and defects may remain visible beneath clear film. Where appropriate, we can discuss touch-ups or paint correction before installation.
Can PPF be applied over a ceramic coating?
Ideally, PPF is installed on properly prepared paint before ceramic coating is applied. Existing coatings may need to be removed from the intended installation areas to ensure suitable adhesion. The correct approach depends on the coating and film system.
Can you apply ceramic coating over PPF?
Yes. A compatible coating can be applied over PPF to improve water repellency, gloss and ease of cleaning. The film must be suitable for the coating, and the correct curing and application instructions must be followed.
Can PPF be installed on matte or satin paintwork?
Yes, provided the selected film is suitable for the finish. Matte or satin film can help retain the intended appearance, while gloss film may change it. The finish should be agreed before installation.
Do you offer coloured or custom-finish PPF?
We can discuss the availability and suitability of finishes such as gloss, satin, coloured and specialist-effect films. Options depend on the product available for the vehicle and the desired finish.
How long does PPF installation take?
Smaller installations may be completed within a day, while full-front and track-pack installations can take longer. Full-body installations usually require several days, depending on the vehicle, panel complexity, coverage and preparation required.
Will you wrap the film around the edges?
Where panel design, access and the film allow, we aim to wrap and tuck edges for a cleaner finish. Not every edge can be wrapped, and some seams or boundaries may be necessary for a secure, durable installation.
Can PPF be removed?
Yes. PPF can generally be removed by a professional installer. The risk to the underlying finish depends on the paint condition, any previous repairs, the film’s age and the removal technique.
Does PPF come with a warranty?
Warranty terms depend on the film manufacturer and product selected. Before installation, we explain the applicable warranty, including its duration, coverage, exclusions and any maintenance requirements.
How much does PPF cost?
The cost depends on the vehicle, coverage, film selection, panel complexity and preparation required. Front-end, track-pack, full-body and bespoke installations are quoted according to the work involved.
What is a vehicle maintenance plan?
A vehicle maintenance plan is a scheduled care programme designed to maintain the condition of your vehicle following an initial professional detail or protection service. It helps keep the vehicle clean, monitor the condition of its surfaces and maintain its appearance over time.
What are the benefits of joining a maintenance plan?
Regular professional care helps keep your vehicle looking its best, makes routine cleaning easier and allows potential issues to be identified earlier. A structured plan also removes the uncertainty of arranging every visit individually.
Who can join a maintenance plan?
Our maintenance plans are intended for vehicles that have undergone an initial assessment and suitable preparation. Eligibility is confirmed based on the vehicle’s condition, the services previously completed and whether the required maintenance schedule is appropriate.
Do I need to have my car detailed by you before joining?
Yes, where required by the selected plan. An initial deep clean, paint correction or protection service establishes a suitable starting condition. If your vehicle has already been professionally detailed or protected elsewhere, we can assess whether it meets our requirements.
What are the requirements for joining a maintenance plan?
Our proposed eligibility requirements are:
-
The vehicle must undergo an initial assessment and any necessary preparation.
-
The customer must agree to the recommended maintenance schedule and follow the relevant aftercare guidance.
-
The vehicle must remain suitable for the programme, with any damage, unusual contamination or additional work discussed separately.
These requirements should be finalised to match the exact plans you decide to offer.
How often will my vehicle need to be maintained?
This depends on the plan and how you use your vehicle. Options can be tailored around two-, four- or eight-week intervals, with more frequent care for daily drivers and less frequent visits for vehicles used occasionally or stored for longer periods.
What is included in a maintenance visit?
A visit typically focuses on a safe exterior wash, wheel and tyre cleaning, appropriate drying and a light interior refresh. The precise inclusions depend on your plan. Deep cleaning, paint correction, stain removal and other specialist work are assessed and quoted separately unless explicitly included.
Will my car stay pristine all year round?
Regular maintenance helps keep your vehicle in excellent condition, but its appearance will still depend on mileage, weather, storage, driving conditions and how it is used between visits. Our goal is to maintain its condition as consistently as possible, not to promise that it will never become dirty or develop wear.
Are maintenance plans suitable for ceramic-coated cars?
Yes. Regular, safe maintenance is particularly valuable for ceramic-coated vehicles because contamination can accumulate on the surface and affect water behaviour. Appropriate washing and periodic inspections help keep the coating performing as intended.
Are maintenance plans suitable for cars with PPF?
Yes. Routine maintenance helps keep the film clean, preserves its appearance and provides opportunities to check accessible edges and surfaces. Cleaning methods must be suitable for the particular film and finish.
Will maintenance visits keep my ceramic coating or PPF performing properly?
Proper maintenance helps preserve appearance and surface performance, but it cannot guarantee a coating’s full advertised lifespan or prevent all film damage. Product-specific care instructions and warranty requirements still apply.
Do you use different products for protected vehicles?
Yes. We select cleaning products and techniques appropriate to the vehicle’s surfaces and protective treatments. This helps avoid unnecessary abrasion and the use of unsuitable chemicals.
Can I book maintenance visits in advance?
Yes. The purpose of a structured plan is to establish a recurring schedule, subject to availability and the agreed terms. We can discuss suitable dates and intervals when setting up your plan.
Can I change my maintenance frequency?
Changes may be possible depending on availability, the plan terms and the vehicle’s needs. If your mileage, usage or storage arrangements change, we can review whether a different interval is more appropriate.
What happens if I miss a maintenance appointment?
Contact us as soon as possible to rearrange your visit. Any notice periods, rescheduling limits or missed-appointment charges should be explained in the plan terms before you join.
Can I pause or cancel my maintenance plan?
This depends on the plan you select and its agreed terms. We explain the commitment, cancellation arrangements and any notice period before enrolment.
Can I join if my car is not ceramic-coated or protected with PPF?
Potentially, yes. Eligibility depends on the particular maintenance plan. Some plans may be designed for vehicles that have received an initial professional detail, while others may require a specific protective treatment.
Are maintenance plans cheaper than booking individual details?
The value depends on the plan’s pricing and inclusions. A recurring arrangement can provide predictable care and scheduling, and any financial savings should be clearly stated where they genuinely apply.
Do you offer maintenance for collector and performance cars?
Yes. We can tailor ongoing care around the vehicle’s value, usage, storage and preservation goals. Vehicles that are rarely driven may require a different schedule from daily drivers or frequently used performance cars.
What happens if you discover a scratch or damage during a maintenance visit?
We will bring it to your attention and discuss the appropriate next steps. Any additional correction, repair or specialist treatment will be agreed separately before work proceeds.
How should I wash my car after a ceramic coating or PPF installation?
Use a gentle, safe-wash method with suitable automotive shampoo, clean wash media and soft drying towels. Avoid abrasive brushes and harsh chemicals, and follow the specific aftercare instructions provided for your coating or film.
Can I use a pressure washer?
Generally, yes, once the initial curing or settling period has passed. Keep the nozzle at a sensible distance, use an appropriate spray pattern and avoid directing concentrated pressure at PPF edges or seams. Follow your product-specific instructions.
Can I use an automatic car wash?
We recommend hand washing wherever possible. Brush-based automatic washes can introduce swirl marks and may damage vulnerable film edges. Touchless washes avoid physical brushes but may use stronger chemicals, so they are not automatically the best option.
How soon can I wash my vehicle after treatment?
The waiting period depends on the coating or film used and the conditions after application. We will give you specific instructions at collection. Do not assume every product has the same curing period.
What should I do if bird droppings or tree sap get on my car?
Remove contamination as soon as reasonably possible using an appropriate, safe cleaning method. Do not scrape or rub dried contamination aggressively, as this may damage the coating, film or underlying finish.
Why has my ceramic coating stopped beading water?
Reduced water beading does not necessarily mean the coating has failed. Traffic film, mineral deposits and other contamination can affect its behaviour. Proper cleaning and, where appropriate, professional decontamination may restore performance.
Why are there small bubbles or hazy patches under my new PPF?
Some temporary moisture or haze can occur during installation and settling. If the marks persist, grow or appear unusual beyond the expected settling period, contact us for an inspection. Do not press, puncture or pick at the film.
What happens if my PPF starts lifting at an edge?
Contact us and provide clear photographs if possible. Avoid pulling at the edge or directing a pressure washer at it. We can inspect the issue and advise on the appropriate repair or warranty process.
Can scratches be polished out after ceramic coating?
Sometimes, but polishing an already coated surface can remove or compromise the coating in the affected area. We assess the scratch first and explain whether correction, spot treatment or reapplication of protection is necessary.
How often should I wash a protected vehicle?
The right frequency depends on usage, storage and exposure to contamination. A daily-driven vehicle generally needs more frequent washing than a garage-stored collector car. We can recommend a suitable routine for your vehicle.
Do I need to maintain a car that is kept in a garage?
Yes. Garage storage reduces certain environmental exposures but does not eliminate dust, moisture, handling marks or contamination. Occasional use and periodic checks still form part of good preservation.
Can you remove deep scratches and stone chips?
Some scratches can be improved through paint correction, while deeper damage may require touch-up or a specialist repair. Stone chips are not normally removed by polishing. We assess the damage and explain what results are realistically achievable.
Can you restore faded paint or damaged trim?
In some cases, yes. The appropriate treatment depends on the material, the extent of deterioration and whether the damage is reversible. We assess the affected surfaces before recommending a service.
Do you provide before-and-after photos or condition reports?
We can document agreed work with photographs and, where appropriate, condition assessments and paint-thickness readings. More detailed documentation can be incorporated into a bespoke preservation service.
The aftercare advice above is deliberately general. Your final customer handover should follow the exact product instructions for each coating and film, since curing periods and maintenance requirements can differ.
How do I book a service?
Contact us with your vehicle details and the service you are interested in. We will discuss your requirements, assess the vehicle where necessary and provide a quotation before confirming your booking.
Is the price on my quote the final price?
Your quotation will set out the agreed work and price. If additional work becomes necessary or you request changes, we will discuss the options and obtain your approval before proceeding.
Why do prices vary between vehicles?
Vehicle size, paint condition, panel complexity, existing damage and the level of preparation required all affect the time and materials involved. We tailor our recommendations and quotations to the individual vehicle rather than assuming every car requires the same work.
How long will you need my vehicle?
This depends on the service. Ceramic coatings require thorough preparation and curing time, while PPF installations can take several days for larger coverage packages. We will confirm the expected timescale before your booking.
Where will my vehicle be kept while you work on it?
We will explain the location and arrangements for your particular booking before you hand over the vehicle. For specialist services, the working environment must be suitable for the process, particularly for PPF installation and coating application.
Is my vehicle insured while in your care?
We will explain the insurance arrangements applicable to the work and vehicle-handling arrangements before booking. Customers should be able to clarify any relevant cover and limitations in advance.
Do I need to leave my keys with you?
Depending on the service and vehicle-handling arrangements, keys may need to be provided for the duration of the booking. We will agree the practical arrangements with you beforehand.
Do you work on expensive or rare vehicles?
Yes. We welcome enquiries for luxury, performance and enthusiast vehicles. We tailor the preparation, protection and maintenance approach to the vehicle’s condition, finish and preservation requirements.
What if I am not sure which package to choose?
You do not need to know which package is best before contacting us. Tell us what you want to achieve, how you use the vehicle and what you are concerned about. We will explain the available options and recommend an appropriate solution.
Do you offer free assessments or consultations?
Please contact us to discuss your vehicle and requirements. We can explain whether an initial consultation, photographs or an in-person assessment is appropriate before preparing your quotation.
What if I have a problem after collection?
Contact us with details and photographs of the issue. We will review the concern and explain the appropriate next steps, including any applicable product warranty or installation remedy.
Do you provide advice after the service?
Yes. We explain the relevant aftercare requirements and can recommend a suitable maintenance routine. For vehicles receiving specialist protection, we can also discuss ongoing inspections and preservation services.
Can I purchase a service as a gift?
Contact us to discuss a suitable service or gift arrangement. The best option will depend on the recipient’s vehicle, its condition and the service they require.
